Co-founder, Legal Engineering

Kyle MacLean Smith

Kyle MacLean Smith is a legal engineer and inventor dedicated to extending global understanding through the formalization of legal language. As Partner and Co-Founder at Ixian, he leads a studio focused on bridging human intent with deterministic technical infrastructure. His work emphasizes alignment of technical execution and software with legal systems and foundational principles.

With over 15 years of legal experience, Kyle’s expertise is rooted in the high-stakes world of intellectual property and rights management. Prior to attending law school, he managed multi-million dollar music publishing M&A and rights acquisitions, where he successfully realized critical compute efficiencies in complex rights administration. This early realization of the power of data structures in legal environments led him to pursue a Juris Doctor and eventually develop the mathematical foundations for what he calls "Republican Compute"—sovereign, local execution that protects individual agency.

A prolific inventor, Kyle is the primary author of ERC-7827 (JSON Smart Contracts with Value Version Control) and the inventor of the Hierarchical Script Database (US Patent 12,664,142). His discovery of the Pythagorean Remainder and the (c-b)/a formula provides the mathematical certainty required for bit-perfect hardware execution. Kyle is a prominent voice in the Network State movement, advocating for jurisdictional buffers and verifiable legal "dry code" that enables the scaling of trust across the global manifold.

Career Highlights

  • Music Publishing M&A Lead: Managed multi-million dollar intellectual property acquisitions and pioneered computational efficiencies in rights management.

  • Network State Infrastructure Architect: Leading the development of sovereign compute protocols and jurisdictional frameworks for emerging digital enclaves.

  • Inventor of the Hierarchical Script Database (SeedTree DB): Patented a new database primitive (US 12,664,142) that unifies data and logic to eliminate synchronization errors in distributed systems.

  • Mathematical Discoverer: Contributed linear recurrence sequences to the OEIS (A330399) based on his discovery of the (c-b)/a formula for approximating irrational number sets.

  • Protocol Author (ERC-7827): Authored the Ethereum standard for version-controlled JSON smart contracts, providing a REST-compatible bridge for onchain state management.
